The Bible & Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy
PSALMS
33:8-10 Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast. The Lord bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.
PROVERBS
21:30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the Lord.
NUMBERS
22:1,3,4-6 (to:),12;21-22;26;27,31;35,36,41, 23:5,8,11-12… And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab…And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many…And Balak…king of the Moabites…sent messengers…unto Balaam…saying…there is a people come out from Egypt…they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me: Come now…curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed…And Balaam…saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab. And God’s anger was kindled because he went…And the angel of the Lord stood in the way… in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left. And when the ass saw the angel of the Lord, she fell down under Balaam…and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he…fell flat on his face. And the angel…said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak…
And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him…And…took
Balaam…into the high places of Baal, that thence he might see the utmost part of the
people…And the Lord put a word in Balaam’s mouth, and said…How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the Lord hath not defied? And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether. And he answered…Must I not take heed to speak that which the Lord hath put in my mouth?
SH 192:19-20 (to ,)
In Science, you can have no power opposed to God,
SH 151:21-23
The human mind has no power to kill or to cure, and it has no control over God’s man.
SH 544:14-17
No mortal mind has the might or right or wisdom to create or to destroy. All is under the control of the one Mind, even God.
ISAIAH (Good News Translation)
14:24 The Lord Almighty has sworn an oath: “What I have planned will happen. What I have determined to do will be done…
ACTS
9:1-6 Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
SH 495:31-1, 5 (np)
In the Science of Mind, you will soon ascertain that error cannot destroy error…You will learn that in Christian Science the first duty is to obey God, to have one Mind, and to love another as yourself.
SH 324:19
Paul was not at first a disciple of Jesus but a persecutor of Jesus’ followers. When the truth first appeared to him in Science, Paul was made blind, and his blindness was felt; but spiritual light soon enabled him to follow the example and teachings of Jesus, healing the sick and preaching Christianity throughout Asia Minor, Greece, and even in imperial Rome.
SH 326:23-26
Saul of Tarsus beheld the way — the Christ, or Truth — only when his uncertain sense of right yielded to a spiritual sense, which is always right. Then the man was changed.
SH 151:24
The human mind is opposed to God and must be put off, as St. Paul declares. All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal. The straight and narrow way is to see and acknowledge this fact, yield to this power, and follow the leadings of truth.
ACTS
5:12 (to;);15-21(to.);24-29;33-34(to ,);35,38-39 (to ;)…by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders…; Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one. Then the high priest rose up…filled with indignation, And…put them in the common prison. But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors…and said, Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life. And…they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught…Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow. Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people. Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned. And…set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, …Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name?…ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us. Then Peter and the other apostles…said, We ought to obey God rather than men…When they heard that, they… took counsel to slay them. Then stood…up…a Pharisee named Gamaliel,…And said…Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men…let them alone: for if this counsel…be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it;
ISAIAH
46:9-10…for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me…My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:
JOB (Living Bible)
11:7-8 “Do you know the mind and purposes of God? Will long searching make them known to you? Are you qualified to judge the Almighty?
PROVERBS (International Children’s Bible)
16:4 The Lord makes everything work the way he wants it.
SH 9:17
Dost thou “love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind”? This command includes much, even the surrender of all merely material sensation, affection, and worship. This is the El Dorado of Christianity. It involves the Science of Life, and recognizes only the divine control of Spirit, in which Soul is our master, and material sense and human will have no place.
SH 151:31-5
That mortal mind claims to govern every organ of the mortal body, we have overwhelming proof. But this so-called mind is a myth, and must by its own consent yield to Truth. It would wield the sceptre of a monarch, but it is powerless. The immortal divine Mind takes away all its supposed sovereignty, and saves mortal mind from itself.
ISAIAH
44:24 Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;
PROVERBS
3:5-7 (to :) Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes:
ISAIAH (Good News Translation)
46:3 (from.),4-5,10,11 (from.), 12-13(to second.) I have cared for you from the time you were born. I am your God and will take care of you until you are old and your hair is gray. I made you and will care for you. I will give you help and rescue you. “To whom will you compare me?” says the Lord. “Is there anyone else like me? From the beginning I predicted the outcome; long ago I foretold what would happen. I said that my plans would never fail, that I would do everything I intended to do…and accomplish what I have planned. I have spoken, and it will be done. “Listen to me, you stubborn people who think that victory is far away. I am bringing the day of victory near— it is not far away at all. My triumph will not be delayed…
SH 10:22-31
Experience teaches us that we do not always receive the blessings we ask for in prayer. There is some misapprehension of the source and means of all goodness and blessedness, or we should certainly receive that for which we ask. The Scriptures say: “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” That which we desire and for which we ask, it is not always best for us to receive. In this case infinite Love will not grant the request.
SH 11:27-31
Prayer cannot change the unalterable Truth, nor can prayer alone give us an understanding of Truth; but prayer, coupled with a fervent habitual desire to know and do the will of God, will bring us into all Truth.
JEREMIAH
29:11-13 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
JOHN (J.B. Phillips)
6:38-40 I have come down from Heaven, not to do what I want, but to do the will of him who sent me. The will of him who sent me is that I should not lose anything of what he has given me, but should raise it up when the last day comes. And this is the will of the one who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son and trusts in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up when the last day comes.”
PROVERBS (Good News Translation)
19:21 People may plan all kinds of things, but the Lord’s will is going to be done.
ISAIAH
45:22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
LUKE
11:1-2…one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
SH 17:1
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Enable us to know, — as in heaven, so on earth, — God is omnipotent, supreme.
SH 43:27
The divine must overcome the human at every point. The Science Jesus taught and lived must triumph over all material beliefs about life, substance, and intelligence, and the multitudinous errors growing from such beliefs.
SH 193:32-2
It has been demonstrated to me that Life is God and that the might of omnipotent Spirit shares not its strength with matter or with human will.
SH 326:3-15
If we wish to follow Christ, Truth, it must be in the way of God’s appointing. Jesus said, “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also.” He, who would reach the source and find the divine remedy for every ill, must not try to climb the hill of Science by some other road. All nature teaches God’s love to man, but man cannot love God supremely and set his whole affections on spiritual things, while loving the material or trusting in it more than in the spiritual.
We must forsake the foundation of material systems, however time-honored, if we would gain the Christ as our only Saviour. Not partially, but fully, the great healer of mortal mind is the healer of the body.
ISAIAH
65:21-24 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them. And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
LUKE (J.B. Phillips)
1:37 For no promise of God can fail to be fulfilled.”
JOB
42:2 I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.
PHILIPPIANS (J.B. Phillips)
2:13 For it is God who is at work within you, giving you the will and the power to achieve his purpose.
SH 91:5
Let us rid ourselves of the belief that man is separated from God, and obey only the divine Principle, Life and Love. Here is the great point of departure for all true spiritual growth.
SH 151:26
All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal. The straight and narrow way is to see and acknowledge this fact, yield to this power, and follow the leadings of truth.
SH 264:28
When we learn the way in Christian Science and recognize man’s spiritual being, we shall behold and understand God’s creation, — all the glories of earth and heaven and man.

“GOD’S WILL TO MEN”
By John W. Harwood
The Christian Science Journal – March 1939
…We know God’s will in proportion as we know God… Christian Science shows the necessity of submitting oneself, one’s desires, one’s interests, to the will of God…while fulfilling his mission, Jesus announced that he came not to do his own will, but the will of his Father…In doing God’s will he destroyed disease, suffering, deformity, and death. He stilled the storm; and he made the greatest sacrifice by submitting himself to the test of death, proving by his resurrection that death is not in accordance with God’s will. It is God’s will that man should ever be His own image and likeness, perfect even as the Father is perfect. This understanding of God and His will, and of the untrue nature and powerlessness of the carnal mind or human will, enables us to follow in the Master’s footsteps, and prove that whatever does not emanate from the one and only cause, divine Principle, Love, has no real existence, and so can be overcome. Christian Science has restored “primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing”(Man. p 17). The sick are again being healed, the sorrowing comforted, and the gospel of the kingdom is being preached. How grateful Christian Scientists are to the one—Mary Baker Eddy—who discovered the absolute Science of being, and gave it to the world in the Christian Science textbook, so that all may learn the truth about God, about His creation, about man, and about God’s will, and so repudiate, deny, and destroy whatever would claim to oppose that perfect will!
