THE BIBLE

DEUTERONOMY

6:4 …The Lord our God is one Lord:

GENESIS

1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

REVELATION

1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come,

JOSHUA

6:1…Jericho was…shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.
10 And Joshua …commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.
13 And seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord went on continually, and blew with the trumpets:
15 And …on the seventh day, …they rose early …and on that day they compassed the city seven times.
16 And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the Lord hath given you the city.
20 So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and…when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, …the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, …and they took the city.

ISAIAH

45:18 I am the Lord; and there is none else.

EZEKIEL (New International Reader’s version)

37:15 A message from the Lord came to me…

16 “Son of man, get a stick of wood. Write on it, ‘Belonging to the tribe of Judah and the Israelites who are connected with it.’ Then get another stick. Write on it, ‘Ephraim’s stick. Belonging to the tribes of Joseph and all the Israelites connected with them.’

17 Join them together into one stick in your hand.

18 “Your people will ask you, ‘What do you mean by this?’

19 Tell them … “I will take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone. I will gather them together from all around. I will bring them back to their own land.

22 There I will make them one nation…All of them will have one king. They will never be two nations again…They will be my people. And I will be their God.

24 A man who belongs to the family line of my servant David will be their king.

ISAIAH

11:1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
2 And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,
10 …a root of Jesse,…shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek:…
11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people,
12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
16 And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people,

EZEKIEL (New Living Translation)

11:17  I, the Sovereign Lord, will gather you back from the nations where you have been scattered…

19 And I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them. I will take away their stony, stubborn heart and give them a tender, responsive heart,

20 so they will obey my decrees and regulations. Then they will truly be my people, and I will be their God.

ROMANS

12:5 …we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

I CORINTHIANS

6:17 …he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

JOHN (J. B. Phillips Translation)

17:1 …Jesus… raised his eyes to Heaven and said…

9-12 “Holy Father, keep the men you gave me by your power that they may be one, as we are one.

20-26 “I am not praying only for these men but for all those who will believe in me through their message, that they may all be one. Just as you, Father, live in me and I live in you, I am asking that they may live in us, that the world may believe that you did send me. I have given them the honour that you gave me, that they may be one, as we are one—I in them and you in me, that they may grow complete into one, so that the world may realise that you sent me and have loved them as you loved me. Father, I want those whom you have given me to be with me where I am; I want them to see that glory which you have made mine—for you loved me before the world began. Father of goodness and truth, the world has not known you, but I have known you and these men now know that you have sent me. I have made your self known to them and I will continue to do so that the love which you have had for me may be in their hearts—and that I may be there also.

ACTS

13 …they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphæus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
7 And they were all amazed and marvelled,…
44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

EPHESIANS

4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

SCIENCE AND HEALTH WITH KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES

By Mary Baker Eddy

SH 502:22-29

Genesis i. 1. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

The infinite has no beginning. This word beginning is employed to signify the only, — that is, the eternal verity and unity of God and man, including the universe. The creative Principle — Life, Truth, and Love — is God. The universe reflects God. There is but one creator and one creation.

SH 281:6-7

The circle represents the infinite without beginning or end;

SH 515:16-20

The eternal Elohim includes the forever universe. The name Elohim is in the plural, but this plurality of Spirit does not imply more than one God, nor does it imply three persons in one. It relates to the oneness, the tri-unity of Life, Truth, and Love.

SH 114:10

In Science, Mind is one,

S&H 372:17-18

Christian Science and Christianity are one.

SH 340:15-29

“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” (Exodus xx. 3.) The First Commandment is my favorite text. It demonstrates Christian Science. It inculcates the triunity of God, Spirit, Mind; it signifies that man shall have no other spirit or mind but God, eternal good, and that all men shall have one Mind. The divine Principle of the First Commandment bases the Science of being, by which man demonstrates health, holiness, and life eternal. One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, “Love thy neighbor as thyself;” annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry, — whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed.

SH 69:9-10, 13-16

…the real, ideal man appears in proportion as the false and material disappears.

Spiritually to understand that there is but one creator, God, unfolds all creation, confirms the Scriptures, brings the sweet assurance of no parting, no pain, and of man deathless and perfect and eternal.

SH 112:31-2

God is the Principle of divine metaphysics. As there is but one God, there can be but one divine Principle of all Science;

SH 190:4-7

As mortals give up the delusion that there is more than one Mind, more than one God, man in God’s likeness will appear, and this eternal man will include in that likeness no material element.

SH 276:1-9

Having one God, one Mind, unfolds the power that heals the sick, and fulfils these sayings of Scripture, “I am the Lord that healeth thee,” and “I have found a ransom.” When the divine precepts are understood, they unfold the foundation of fellowship, in which one mind is not at war with another, but all have one Spirit, God, one intelligent source, in accordance with the Scriptural command: “Let this Mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.”

SH 469:31-5

With one Father, even God, the whole family of man would be brethren; and with one Mind and that God, or good, the brotherhood of man would consist of Love and Truth, and have unity of Principle and spiritual power which constitute divine Science.

S&H 249:5-10

Let the “male and female” of God’s creating appear. Let us feel the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us into newness of life and recognizing no mortal or material power as able to destroy. Let us rejoice that we are subject to the divine “powers that be.” Such is the true Science of being.

ADDITIONAL READING

“The March Primary Class”

Prose Works

By Mary Baker Eddy

“My students, three picture-stories from the Bible present themselves to my thought; …The first is that of Joshua and his band before the walls of Jericho. They went seven times around these walls, the seven times corresponding to the seven days of creation: the six days are to find out the nothingness of matter; the seventh is the day of rest, when it is found that evil is naught and good is all.

The second picture is of the disciples met together in an upper chamber; and they were of one mind. Mark, that in the case of Joshua and his band they had all to shout together in order that the walls might fall; and the disciples, too, were of one mind.

We, today, in this class-room, are enough to convert the world if we are of one Mind; for then the whole world will feel the influence of this Mind (Misc. 279:13-2)
