By Mary Baker Eddy
GENESIS
1: 31And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.
2:1Thus the heavens and the earth were finished,
SH 205:12-13
God created all through Mind and made all perfect and eternal.
GENESIS
5:23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:
24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
HEBREWS (J.B. Phillips)
11:5 …because of his faith…Enoch was promoted to the eternal world without experiencing death.
SH 288:24-26
Life is not subject to death; …the spiritual real man has no birth, no material life, and no death.
SH 244:23-24, 25-27
Man in Science is neither young nor old. He has neither birth nor death.
He does not pass from matter to Mind, from the mortal to the immortal,
SH 335:18-24
Only by losing the false sense of Soul can we gain the eternal unfolding of Life as immortality brought to light.
II KINGS (New English Translation)
2:9 Elijah said to Elisha, “What can I do for you, before I am taken away from you?” Elisha answered, “May I receive a double portion of the prophetic spirit that energizes you.”
10 Elijah replied, “That’s a difficult request! If you see me taken from you, may it be so, but if you don’t, it will not happen.”
11 As they were walking along and talking, suddenly a fiery chariot pulled by fiery horses appeared. They went between Elijah and Elisha, and Elijah went up to heaven in a windstorm.
12 While Elisha was watching, he was crying out, “My father, my father! The chariot and horsemen of Israel!” Then he could no longer see him.
MATTHEW
17:1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
SH 288:27-28
Science reveals the glorious possibilities of immortal man, forever unlimited by the mortal senses.
SH 324:32-2
Jesus said substantially, “He that believeth in me shall not see death.” That is, he who perceives the true idea of Life loses his belief in death.
SH 589:16-18
Jesus. The highest human corporeal concept of the divine idea, rebuking and destroying error and bringing to light man’s immortality
SH 288:29-2
The Christ-element in the Messiah made him the Way-shower, Truth and Life.
The eternal Truth destroys what mortals seem to have learned from error, and man’s real existence as a child of God comes to light. Truth demonstrated is eternal life.
JOHN
11:1 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus,
4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
17 …when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.
21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
38 Jesus…cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
39 Jesus said, Take ye away the stone.
41 …And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
SH 69:13-16
Spiritually to understand that there is but one creator, God, unfolds all creation, confirms the Scriptures, brings the sweet assurance of no parting, no pain, and of man deathless and perfect and eternal.
SH 75:13-15
Jesus restored Lazarus by the understanding that Lazarus had never died
SH 386:31-2
…when our friends pass from our sight and we lament, that lamentation is needless and causeless. We shall perceive this to be true when we grow into the understanding of Life, and know that there is no death.
SH 43:28-31
The Science Jesus taught and lived must triumph over all material beliefs about life, substance, and intelligence, and the multitudinous errors growing from such beliefs.
SH 347:6-7
Nothing really has Life but God, who is infinite Life; hence all is Life, and death has no dominion.
MARK
15:37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.
43 Joseph of Arimathæa,…
46 …took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.
16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
4 And…they saw that the stone was rolled away:
5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.
6 And he saith unto them…Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen;
9 …he appeared first to Mary Magdalene,…
14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven…
LUKE
24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
I JOHN
11 God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
SH 44:5-9
The lonely precincts of the tomb gave Jesus a refuge from his foes, a place in which to solve the great problem of being. His three days’ work in the sepulchre set the seal of eternity on time. He proved Life to be deathless…
SH 45:6-10
Our Master fully and finally demonstrated divine Science in his victory over death and the grave. Jesus’ deed was for the enlightenment of men and for the salvation of the whole world from sin, sickness, and death.
JOHN
3:16 …God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
10:7 …Then said Jesus unto them…
9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved,
10 I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish,
SH 289:14-20
The fact that the Christ, or Truth, overcame and still overcomes death proves the “king of terrors” to be but a mortal belief, or error, which Truth destroys with the spiritual evidences of Life; and this shows that what appears to the senses to be death is but a mortal illusion, for to the real man and the real universe there is no death-process.
SH 468:25-6
Question. — What is Life?
Answer. — Life is divine Principle, Mind, Soul, Spirit. Life is without beginning and without end. Eternity, not time, expresses the thought of Life, and time is no part of eternity. One ceases in proportion as the other is recognized. Time is finite; eternity is forever infinite. Life is neither in nor of matter. What is termed matter is unknown to Spirit, which includes in itself all substance and is Life eternal. Matter is a human concept. Life is divine Mind. Life is not limited. Death and finiteness are unknown to Life. If Life ever had a beginning, it would also have an ending.
SH 281:3-22
The real Life, or Mind, and its opposite, the so-called material life and mind, are figured by two geometrical symbols, a circle or sphere and a straight line. The circle represents the infinite without beginning or end; the straight line represents the finite, which has both beginning and end. The sphere represents good, the self-existent and eternal individuality or Mind; the straight line represents evil, a belief in a self-made and temporary material existence. Eternal Mind and temporary material existence never unite in figure or in fact.
SH 426:11-22
If the belief in death were obliterated and the understanding obtained that there is no death, this would be a “tree of life,” known by its fruits. Man should renew his energies and endeavors, and see the folly of hypocrisy, while also learning the necessity of working out his own salvation. When it is learned that disease cannot destroy life, and that mortals are not saved from sin or sickness by death, this understanding will quicken into newness of life. It will master either a desire to die or a dread of the grave, and thus destroy the great fear that besets mortal existence.
SH 306:13-19
If Life or Soul and its representative, man, unite for a period and then are separated as by a law of divorce to be brought together again at some uncertain future time and in a manner unknown, — and this is the general religious opinion of mankind, — we are left without a rational proof of immortality. But man cannot be separated for an instant from God, if man reflects God.
ROMANS
6:23 …the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord
PSALMS
23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
SH 598:22-30
One moment of divine consciousness, or the spiritual understanding of Life and Love, is a foretaste of eternity. This exalted view, obtained and retained when the Science of being is understood, would bridge over with life discerned spiritually the interval of death, and man would be in the full consciousness of his immortality and eternal harmony, where sin, sickness, and death are unknown.
SH 284:3-6
This Science of being obtains not alone hereafter in what men call Paradise, but here and now; it is the great fact of being for time and eternity.

“Neither Beginning of Days, or End of Life”
By Clara Leavitt Baxter
The Christian Science Sentinel May 1926
Christian Science teaches that God is the only Life, eternal, infinite, immutable; that man is inseparable from this Life; and that as the pure reflection of the eternal One, man is without mortal limitation or time-sense, without beginning or end. In this connection the circle and the sphere, which have no point of beginning or end, symbolize real Life, eternal good. This is a glorious contrast to the frail concept of life which the material senses afford us.
God gives man the gift of eternal life; but to prove this in everyday experience, human progress is demanded…mortals must remove their cobwebs, their entanglements, their snarls—their wrong thinking and acting… In healing one’s ills and sins, one simplifies the difficulties of the rest of the world. Our textbook, “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 240), says of this process, “The divine method of paying sin’s wages involves unwinding one’s snarls, and learning from experience how to divide between sense and Soul.”
When mortals shall have turned completely from matter to Spirit, when they shall have relinquished the beliefs of the flesh and are living perfectly the revealed truths of Christian Science, all erroneous beliefs will have given place to the spiritual perception of immortal man, who will be spiritually perceived as “having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God.”
