PSALMS
25:2 O my God, I trust in thee:
43:3 … send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.
25:5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.
JOB
32:8 …there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.
DANIEL
1: 1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.
3¶ And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes;
4 Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
6 Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:
7 Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed–nego.
3:8 Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews.
9 They spake and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever.
10Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image:
11 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
12 There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
19 ¶ Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.
20 And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.
24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
26¶ Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither.
27 And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.
28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.
LUKE
8: 43¶ … a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
45 And Jesus said, Who touched me?
46 … for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.
48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
AND FROM JOHN IN THE NEW ENGLISH BIBLE
7-9 … a Samaritan woman came to draw water. Jesus said to her, ‘Give me a drink.’ The Samaritan woman said, ‘What! You, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a Samaritan woman?’
10-11 Jesus answered her, ‘If only you knew what God gives, and who it is that is asking you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.’ ‘
13-14 ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water that I shall give him will never suffer thirst any more. The water that I shall give him will be an inner spring always welling up for eternal life.”
23-26 ‘… the time approaches, indeed it is already here, when those who are real worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. … God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.‘
14:15-16 “If you love me you will obey my commands; and I will ask the Father, and he will give you another to by your Advocate, who will be with you forever—the Spirit of Truth.
AND AGAIN FROM THE KING JAMES VERSION: FIRST CORINTHIANS
2:9 … Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
5 … your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
GALATIANS
5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
22 . . . the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
II TIMOTHY
3:15 … from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
GENESIS
1:3 …God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good:

1:5 God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
SCIENCE & HEALTH WITH KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES
BY MARY BAKER EDDY
SH 583:20-22 (to 2nd ;)
Creator. Spirit; Mind; intelligence; the animating divine Principle of all that is real and good; self-existent Life, Truth, and Love; that which is perfect and eternal;
SH 330:11-12
God is infinite, the only Life, substance, Spirit, or Soul, the only intelligence of the universe, including man.
SH 276:6-9 all
… all have one Spirit, God, one intelligent source, in accordance with the Scriptural command: “Let this Mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.”
SH 249:6-9
Let us feel the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us into newness of life and recognizing no mortal nor material power as able to destroy. Let us rejoice that we are subject to the divine “powers that be.”
SH 481:2-3
Man is tributary to God, Spirit, and to nothing else.
SH 487:27
The understanding that Life is God, Spirit, lengthens our days by strengthening our trust in the deathless reality of Life, its almightiness and immortality.
SH 161:5
Holy inspiration has created states of mind which have been able to nullify the action of the flames, as in the Bible case of the three young Hebrew captives, cast into the Babylonian furnace; while an opposite mental state might produce spontaneous combustion.
SH 167:22-26
It is not wise to take a halting and half-way position or to expect to work equally with Spirit and matter, Truth and error. There is but one way — namely, God and His idea — which leads to spiritual being.
SH 387:8-11 when (to 2nd ,)
… when we realize that immortal Mind is ever active, and that spiritual energies can neither wear out nor can so-called material law trespass upon God-given powers and resources, we are able to rest in Truth, …
SH 380:28
Nothing is more disheartening than to believe that there is a power opposite to God, or good, and that God endows this opposing power with strength to be used against Himself, against Life, health, harmony.
SH 180:17-21
Doctors should not implant disease in the thoughts of their patients, as they so frequently do, by declaring disease to be a fixed fact, even before they go to work to eradicate the disease through the material faith which they inspire.
SH 394:5-7
By conceding power to discord, a large majority of doctors depress mental energy, which is the only real recuperative power.
SH 185:32
A patient under the influence of mortal mind is healed only by removing the influence on him of this mind, by emptying his thought of the false stimulus and reaction of will-power and filling it with the divine energies of Truth.
SH 180:25-27
When man is governed by God, the ever-present Mind who understands all things, man knows that with God all things are possible.
SH 496:15
Hold perpetually this thought, — that it is the spiritual idea, the Holy Ghost and Christ, which enables you to demonstrate, with scientific certainty, the rule of healing, based upon its divine Principle, Love, underlying, overlying, and encompassing all true being.
SH 192:24, 30-31
Evil is not power. It is a mockery of strength, which erelong betrays its weakness and falls, never to rise.
Whatever holds human thought in line with unselfed love, receives directly the divine power.
SH 250:12
Man is not God, but like a ray of light which comes from the sun, man, the outcome of God, reflects God.
SH 361:16-18
As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and man, Father and son, are one in being.
SH 5:16-18 God
… God pours the riches of His love into the understanding and affections, giving us strength according to our day.
SH 566:1-9
As the children of Israel were guided triumphantly through the Red Sea, the dark ebbing and flowing tides of human fear, — as they were led through the wilderness, walking wearily through the great desert of human hopes, and anticipating the promised joy, —so shall the spiritual idea guide all right desires in their passage from sense to Soul, from a material sense of existence to the spiritual, up to the glory prepared for them who love God.

“The Fiery Furnace”
Paul O. Nafe
The Christian Science Sentinel
March 29, 1930
To those struggling with what seems to be a particularly vexing problem, the account in the book of Daniel of the deliverance of the three young Hebrews from the fiery furnace never fails to bring fresh inspiration. Scarcely a student of the Bible but has been impressed by the fact that although King Nebuchadnezzar had commanded the furnace to be heated “one seven times more than it was wont to be heated,” the faithful young men came forth from the fiery ordeal without “an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed:” and to emphasize how complete had been their protection, the writer adds, “nor the smell of fire had passed on them.” There was absolutely no trace of the experience.
The observant reader will note as he studies the Biblical account, however, that something was burned. We read that the king “commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego,” and that they “were bound … and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.” After this we are told that the king looked in, and in amazement asked, “Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?” He was assured that this was so. Then he exclaimed,” “Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” Yes, through the aid of the Christ, something had disappeared in the furnace fires, and it was the very thing that needed to be destroyed: it was that which bound them, their bonds.
Small wonder, then, that Christian Scientists who seem to be going through a furnace experience are cheerful; small wonder that they rejoice. They know that it is only a testing time, that a correct understanding of the ever-presence of Love will nothingize the flames so that they can “have no hurt.” Only the apparent bonds of materiality can be touched and destroyed! With this in mind perhaps we can better understand Mrs. Eddy’s statement in “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures”, “Trials are proofs of God’s care.”
