PRINCIPLE

FROM THE BIBLE:

PSALMS

WEDNESDAY EVENING READINGS FEBRUARY 8, 2012 “PRINCIPLE”

1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 19:8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. 13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

DEUTERONOMY

31:1 And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel. 30:15 … I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; 16 In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: 28:7 The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways. 30:17 But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; 18 I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, … 19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: 20 That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days:

II SAMUEL

11:2 ¶ … it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.

3 And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath- sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? 4 And David sent messengers, and took her; 5 And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child. 14 ¶ And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.

15 And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die. 17 And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.

26 ¶ And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband. 27 And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the Lord.

12:15 ¶ And the Lord struck the child that Uriah’s wife bare unto David, and it was very sick. 18 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. 20 Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the Lord, and worshipped: 24 ¶ And David comforted Bath-sheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the Lord loved him.

31 So David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem.

I KINGS

15:4 …for David’s sake did the Lord his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem. 5 Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

MATTHEW

22:35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 7:12 … all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. 13 ¶ Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

2

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

LUKE

18:10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

EPHESIANS

4:17 … walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: 1 …walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 22 … put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

SCIENCE & HEALTH WITH KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES BY MARY BAKER EDDY.

S&H 115:13

GOD: Divine Principle, Life, Truth, Love, Soul, Spirit, Mind.

S&H 275:6

The starting-point of divine Science is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that there is no other might nor Mind,–that God is Love, and therefore He is divine Principle.

S&H 112:16-20 (to ;)

From the infinite One in Christian Science comes one Principle and its infinite

3

idea, and with this infinitude come spiritual rules, laws, and their demonstration, which, like the great Giver, are “the same yesterday, and to-day, and forever;”

S&H 283:11 (only)

Principle is absolute.

S&H 329:21-22 Principle Principle is imperative. You cannot mock it by human will.

S&H 405:5-11

Christian Science commands man to master the propensities, — to hold hatred in abeyance with kindness, to conquer lust with chastity, revenge with charity, and to overcome deceit with honesty. Choke these errors in their early stages, if you would not cherish an army of conspirators against health, happiness, and success.

S&H 327:23-24

Moral courage is requisite to meet the wrong and to and to proclaim the right.

S&H 206:10 (only)

Will-power is capable of all evil.

S&H 449:6-7 (to 1st .), 8-10

The wrong done another reacts most heavily against one’s self. Think it “easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle,” than for you to benefit yourself by injuring others.

S&H 13:5-10, 15 God In public prayer we often go beyond our convictions, beyond the honest standpoint of fervent desire. If we are not secretly yearning and openly striving for the accomplishment of all we ask, our prayers are “vain repetitions,” such as the heathen use. … God knows our need before we tell Him or our fellow-beings about it. If we cherish the desire honestly and silently and humbly, God will bless it, and we shall incur less risk of overwhelming our real wishes with a torrent of words.

S&H 15:23

The Master’s injunction is, that we pray in secret and let our lives attest our sincerity.

S&H 8:4-6 there … there is little hope for those who come only spasmodically face to face with their wickedness and then seek to hide it.

S&H 405:22-24

It were better to be exposed to every plague on earth than to endure the cumulative effects of a guilty conscience.

4

S&H 464:23-24

The weapons of bigotry, ignorance, envy, fall before an honest heart.

S&H 453:16-17

Honesty is spiritual power. Dishonesty is human weakness, which forfeits divine help.

S&H 327:9-10

Evil is sometimes a man’s highest conception of right, until his grasp on good grows stronger.

S&H 450:1-4

There is a large class of thinkers whose bigotry and conceit twist every fact to suit themselves. Their creed teaches belief in a mysterious, supernatural God, and in a natural, all-powerful devil.

S&H 289:9-11

To suppose that sin, lust, hatred, envy, hypocrisy, revenge, have life abiding in them, is a terrible mistake.

S&H 483:32

Christianity will never be based on a divine Principle and so found to be unerring, until its absolute Science is reached. When this is accomplished, neither pride, prejudice, bigotry, nor envy can wash away its foundation, for it is built upon the rock, Christ.

S&H 495:28-31

Adhere to the divine Principle of Christian Science and follow the behests of God, abiding steadfastly in wisdom, Truth, and Love.

S&H 496:6 in …. in Christian Science the first duty is to obey God, to have one Mind, and to love another as yourself.

S&H 340:15-16 (to 1st .), 20

“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”(Exodus xx. 3.) The divine Principle of the First Commandment bases the Science of being, by which man demonstrates health, holiness, and life eternal. One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, “Love thy neighbor as thyself;” annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry,–whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed.
