THE BIBLE
PSALMS
139:1 O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.
7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
24:1 The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
24:3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?
4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart;
AND FROM THE NEW ENGLISH BIBLE: JOHN
1:1 When all things began, the Word already was. The Word dwelt with God, and what God was, the Word was.
2, 3 The Word, then, was with God at the beginning, and through him all things came to be; no single created thing came into being without him.
4 There was life in him, and that life was the light of men.
5 The light shines in the dark, and the darkness has never mastered it.
4:24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.
HEBREWS
11:1 … what is faith? Faith gives assurance to our hopes, and makes us certain of realities we do not see.
3 By faith we perceive that the universe was fashioned by the word of God, so that the visible came forth from the invisible.
6 … without faith it is impossible to please him; for anyone who comes to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who search for him.
AND AGAIN FROM JOHN
8:12 Once again Jesus addressed the people: “I am the light of the world. No follower of mine shall wander in the dark; he shall have the light of life.”
44 “Your father is the devil, and you choose to carry our your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and is not rooted in the truth; there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie he is speaking his own language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
31 Turning to the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you dwell within the revelation I have brought, you are indeed my disciples;
32 you shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
AND NOW FROM LUKE IN THE KING JAMES VERSION
4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
2 Being forty days tempted of the devil.
5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.
39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.
10:25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
ROMANS
8:2 … the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
5 … they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.
AND AGAIN FROM HEBREWS
10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering;
35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
SCIENCE & HEALTH WITH KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES
BY MARY BAKER EDDY
SH 594:19
SPIRIT. Divine substance; Mind; divine Principle; all that is good; God; that only which is perfect, everlasting, omnipresent, omnipotent, infinite.
SH 468:21
Spirit, the synonym of Mind, Soul, or God, is the only real substance. The spiritual universe, including individual man, is a compound idea, reflecting the divine substance of Spirit.
SH 301:17-20
As God is substance and man is the divine image and likeness, man should wish for, and in reality has, only the substance of good, the substance of Spirit, not matter.
SH 466:3-4 God
… God combines all-power or potency, all-science or true knowledge, all-presence.
SH 471:18-19
God is infinite, therefore ever present, and there is no other power nor presence.
SH 228:26-27 to
… to acknowledge any other power is to dishonor God.
SH 463:27-28
There is a law of God applicable to healing, and it is a spiritual law instead of material.
SH 182:32
The law of Christ, or Truth, makes all things possible to Spirit; but the so‐called laws of matter would render Spirit of no avail, and demand obedience to materialistic codes, thus departing from the basis of one God, one lawmaker.
To suppose that God constitutes laws of inharmony is a mistake; discords have no support from nature or divine law, however much is said to the contrary.
SH 95:11 (only)
Error of any kind cannot hide from the law of God.
SH 454:29
The superiority of spiritual power over sensuous is the central point of Christian Science. Remember that the letter and mental argument are only human auxiliaries to aid in bringing thought into accord with the spirit of Truth and Love, which heals the sick and the sinner.
SH 14:1-5, 9
If we are sensibly with the body and regard omnipotence as a corporeal, material person, whose ear we would gain, we are not “absent from the body” and “present with the Lord” in the demonstration of Spirit.
To be “with the Lord” is to be in obedience to the law of God, to be absolutely governed by divine Love, — by Spirit, not by matter.
SH 472:9-11
Sickness, sin, and death, being inharmonious, do not originate in God nor belong to His government. His law, rightly understood, destroys them.
SH 282:23
There is no inherent power in matter; for all that is material is a material, human, mortal thought, always governing itself erroneously.
SH 447:27
The sick are not healed merely by declaring there is no sickness, but by knowing that there is none.
SH 420:24
Tell the sick that they can meet disease fearlessly, if they only realize that divine Love gives them all power over every physical action and condition.
SH 381:32
Christ Jesus overruled the error which would impose penalties for transgressions of the physical laws of health; he annulled supposed laws of matter, opposed to the harmonies of Spirit, lacking divine authority and having only human approval for their sanction.
SH 209:31-32
Spiritual sense is a conscious, constant capacity to understand God.
SH 210:5
The Principle and proof of Christianity are discerned by spiritual sense. They are set forth in Jesus’ demonstrations, which show — by his healing the sick, casting out evils, and destroying death, “the last enemy that shall be destroyed,” — his disregard of matter and its so-called laws.
SH 231:30
Man, governed by his Maker, having no other Mind, — planted on the Evangelist’s statement that “all things were made by Him [the Word of God]; and without Him was not anything made that was made,” — can triumph over sin, sickness, and death.

Christian Science Practice
By Blanche Hershey Hogue
Christian Science Journal, December 1911
“Because Christian Science practice is the constant effort to know God as He is and to reduce to nothing through applied spiritual law all that is unlike God, its results are logically the direct manifestation of God with men.
“When the forces of God are sought out, the power is found to be all on one side, for the presence of divine Mind makes void all supposed resistance to good. This awakening view of the divine presence sets the things of human experience in a new order. Thought that grasps spiritual power is no longer bound to hearing and seeing temptation; it is loosed to walk triumphant in the midst of evil, for it makes fresh discoveries of moral strength in newly-appearing spiritual points of view.
“…spiritual understanding knows and proves that evil has no power.
“…right prayer—prayer which announces the ever-presence of God and the unreality of all unlike Him—is the very Word of God declared; and it must be trusted as God Himself is trusted.
“ …the student himself sees this prayer, or treatment, demonstrated in outward conditions only to the extent that he is conforming to the law of God in his own life. In other words, Christian Science treatment must receive our highest confidence; we must expect all good to result from it; we must have as much faith in it as in the presence of God, for it is the presence of God declared; and we must even know that our undestroyed errors have no power to stay its action, because God is omnipotent.”
