HARMONY

THE BIBLE

PSALMS

133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

PROVERBS

15:18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

29:23  A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

20:3 It is an honour for a man to cease from strife:

JOB

3:25 … the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

22:21 Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.

GENESIS

13:1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.

2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

3 And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai;

5 ¶And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.

6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.

7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdmen of Lot’s cattle:

8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.

9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

ISAIAH

65:18 … behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.

22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat:

23 They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them.

11:6  The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

65: 25 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the Lord.

LUKE

22:14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.

19 ¶And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

21 ¶But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.

23 And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

24 ¶And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

25 And he said unto them, …

26 … he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

PHILIPPIANS

2:1  If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

2  Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

3  Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

12 … work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

JAMES

3:14 … if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

16  For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

4:11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren.

4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8  Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.

10  Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

EPHESIANS

4:1  I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

SCIENCE & HEALTH WITH KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES

BY MARY BAKER EDDY.

SH 587:25

HEAVEN. Harmony; the reign of Spirit; government by divine Principle; spirituality; bliss; the atmosphere of Soul.

SH 560:10-15

Heaven represents harmony, and divine Science interprets the Principle of heavenly harmony. The great miracle, to human sense, is divine Love, and
the grand necessity of existence is to gain the true idea of what constitutes the kingdom of heaven in man.

SH 276:26 Discord

Discord is the nothingness named error. Harmony is the somethingness
named Truth.

SH 304:16-19, 20

Harmony is produced by its Principle, is controlled by it and abides with it. Divine Principle is the Life of man. Man’s happiness is not, therefore, at the disposal of physical sense.

Harmony in man is as beautiful as in music, and discord is unnatural, unreal.

SH 213:20

Mozart experienced more than he expressed. The rapture of his grandest symphonies was never heard. He was a musician beyond what the world knew. This was even more strikingly true of Beethoven, who was so long hopelessly deaf. Mental melodies and strains of sweetest music supersede conscious sound. Music is the rhythm of head and heart. Mortal mind is the harp of many strings, discoursing either discord or harmony according as the hand, which sweeps over it, is human or divine.

SH 130:26

If thought is startled at the strong claim of Science for the supremacy of God, or Truth, and doubts the supremacy of good, ought we not, contrariwise, to be astounded at the vigorous claims of evil and doubt them, and no longer think it natural to love sin and unnatural to forsake it, — no longer imagine evil to be ever-present and good absent? Truth should not seem so surprising and unnatural as error, and error should not seem so real as truth. Sickness should not seem so real as health. There is no error in Science, and our lives must be governed by reality in order to be in harmony with God, the divine Principle of all being.

SH 331:11-16

The Scriptures imply that God is All-in-all. From this it follows that nothing possesses reality nor existence except the divine Mind and His ideas. The
Scriptures also declare that God is Spirit. Therefore in Spirit all is harmony, and there can be no discord; all is Life, and there is no death.

SH 427:13-16

Death is but another phase of the dream that existence can be material. Nothing can interfere with the harmony of being nor end the existence of man in Science.

SH 598:24-30

One moment of divine consciousness, or the spiritual understanding of Life and Love, is a foretaste of eternity. This exalted view, obtained and retained when the Science of being is understood, would bridge over with life discerned spiritually the interval of death, and man would be in the full consciousness of his immortality and eternal harmony, where sin, sickness, and death are unknown.

SH 260:31

If we look to the body for pleasure, we find pain; for Life, we find death; for Truth, we find error; for Spirit, we find its opposite, matter. Now reverse this action.  Look away from the body into Truth and Love, the Principle of all happiness, harmony, and immortality. Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts.

SH 410:29

Christian scientific practice begins with Christ’s keynote of harmony, “Be not afraid!”  Said Job: “The thing which I greatly feared is come upon me.”

SH 390:4-9

We cannot deny that Life is self-sustained, and we should never deny the everlasting harmony of Soul, simply because, to the mortal senses, there is seeming discord. It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle, which produces apparent discord, and the right understanding of Him restores harmony.

SH 242:7

There is but one way to heaven, harmony, and Christ in divine Science shows us this way. It is to know no other reality — to have no other consciousness of life — than good, God and His reflection, and to rise superior to the so-called pain and pleasure of the senses.

SH 324:7-12

Unless the harmony and immortality of man are becoming more apparent, we are not gaining the true idea of God; and the body will reflect what governs it, whether it be Truth or error, understanding or belief, Spirit or matter. Therefore

“acquaint now thyself with Him, and be at peace.”

SH 208:20

Let us learn of the real and eternal, and prepare for the reign of Spirit, the kingdom of heaven, — the reign and rule of universal harmony, which cannot be lost nor remain forever unseen.

SH 167:8

Our proportionate admission of the claims of good or of evil determines the harmony of our existence, — our health, our longevity, and our Christianity.

SH 167:27

Only the action of Truth, Life, and Love can give harmony.

SH 521:12 (only)

The harmony and immortality of man are intact.

“Universal Harmony”

by John Richard C. Kenyon

Christian Science Sentinel

October 29, 1960

“What is Christian Science? Mary Baker Eddy, its Discoverer and Founder, has beautifully defined it for us thus: “As the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony.”  Christian Science then is law. True law justly administered is impersonal. It is no respecter of persons. It operates impartially for every individual who faithfully applies it.

“Through the operation of Christian Science, every single one of us is enabled to prove for himself, progressively more and more, that universal harmony is the fact and that it appears in our human experience in proportion to our awakened understanding of its divine Principle.

“Divine Principle is God, the only cause and creator, whose creation, partaking of the divine nature as it must, is orderly, spiritual, loving, intelligent, active, beautiful, and true. The universe of God is a universe of utter harmony, a universe which is uninvadable, a realm in which dwell His universal family, the sons and daughters of God, the ideas of Mind. That is the realm in which you and I, in our true identities, dwell today.”
