The Science and truth of the divine creation have been presented in the verses already considered, and now the opposite error, a material view of creation, is to be set forth. The second chapter of Genesis contains a statement of this material view of God and the universe, a statement which is the exact opposite of scientific truth as before recorded.

The history of error is a dream-narrative. The dream has no reality, no intelligence, no mind; therefore the dreamer and dream are one, for neither is true nor real.

This double term is not used in the first chapter of Genesis, the record of spiritual creation. It is introduced in the second and following chapters, when the spiritual sense of God and of infinity is disappearing from the recorder’s thought, — when the true scientific statements of the Scriptures become clouded through a physical sense of God as finite and corporeal. From this follow idolatry and mythology, — belief in many gods, or material intelligences, as the opposite of the one Spirit, or intelligence, named Elohim, or God.

SH 356:25-27
Does divine Love commit a fraud on humanity by making man inclined to sin, and then punishing him for it?

God said to Noah and his sons:
9:9 I am going to make a solemn promise to you and to everyone who will live after you.

God will not punish man for doing what He created man capable of doing and knew from the outset that man would do. God is “of purer eyes than to behold evil.” We sustain Truth, not by accepting, but by rejecting a lie.

Abraham. Fidelity; faith in the divine Life and in the eternal Principle of being. This patriarch illustrated the purpose of Love to create trust in good and showed the life-preserving power of spiritual understanding.

Born of a woman, Jesus’ advent in the flesh partook partly of Mary’s earthly condition, although he was endowed with the Christ, the divine Spirit, without measure. This accounts for his struggles in Gethsemane and on Calvary, and this enabled him to be the mediator, or way-shower, between God and men. Had his origin and birth been wholly apart from mortal usage, Jesus would not have been appreciable to mortal mind as “the way.”

SH 26:10-14, 16-18
The Christ was the Spirit which Jesus implied in his own statements: “I am the way, the truth, and the life;” This Christ, or divinity of the man Jesus, was his divine nature, the godliness which animated him…His mission was to reveal the Science of celestial being, to prove what God is and what He does for man.

The advent of Jesus of Nazareth marked the first century of the Christian era, but the Christ is without beginning of years or end of days.

MATTHEW
5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

SH 474:18-22, 30-32 the
Now Jesus came to destroy sin, sickness, and death; yet the Scriptures aver, “I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.” Is it possible, then, to believe that the evils which Jesus lived to destroy are real or the offspring of the divine will?
…the mission of Christ is to “destroy the works of the devil.” Truth destroys falsity and error, for light and darkness cannot dwell together.

SH 150:10-17 the
…the mission of Christian Science now, as in the time of its earlier demonstration, is not primarily one of physical healing. Now, as then, signs and wonders are wrought in the metaphysical healing of physical disease; but these signs are only to demonstrate its divine origin, — to attest the reality of the higher mission of the Christ-power to take away the sins of the world.

“Christian Science Fulfills the Scriptural Rainbow Promise”

… Jesus showed how God’s promise to Noah is fulfilled. Jesus destroyed sin, sickness, and sorrow. But he didn’t destroy the people who were sinful, sick, and dying, as the flood had done. His healing work restored individuals to moral and spiritual purity, true health, and life. Surely, then, this is the deeper message of the covenant: that through Christian healing, evil and suffering must and will be overcome and destroyed;…
Healings are the “rainbows” that symbolize the radiance of divine light dispersed to humankind through the “prism” of Christ, the divine message Jesus so fully taught and practiced. Healing through spiritual means and without material aid signals the appearing to human consciousness of God’s glory. In his prophetic vision, Ezekiel had seen this appearing and had described it: “As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain,”… Christian healing began to dwindle shortly after the time of Jesus and his immediate disciples. Gradually, mankind ceased to seek the divine light in the ways illustrated by Jesus. …Spiritual enlightenment was often shut out by thick clouds of theological misunderstanding of Jesus’ teachings and mission. Nevertheless, across the centuries, the book of Revelation still echoed the promise…
In 1866 Mary Baker Eddy received the revelation that fulfills this prophecy of the Apocalypse. …As the revelation of Christ, Christian Science is the prism through which mankind realize permanent deliverance from evil and complete demonstration of good. Mrs. Eddy’s book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures says of the Science she discovered: “When understood, it is Truth’s prism and praise. When you look it fairly in the face, you can heal by its means, and it has for you a light above the sun, for God ‘is the light thereof…
Christian Science practice reinstates the work begun by Jesus. It avails us of the redeeming and healing light of Life, dispersed through the means of Science to destroy sin and suffering while redeeming the sinful and restoring the sick…Through our dedication to practicing what we understand, the healing phenomena, the rainbows, of Christian Science beam their confirmation that God’s promise of preservation—the promise of man’s eternal life in God—is universally available and is fully demonstrable today.
Immense work remains to be done before mankind are freed of temptations and woe, and atomic threats are disarmed. But God’s covenant with humanity has been confirmed in the teachings of Christ Jesus and explained in the Science of Christianity. And it is now mankind’s privilege to grasp this explanation through increased spiritual understanding and to aid its fulfillment through faithful demonstration.
