WEDNESDAY EVENING READINGS JULY 4, 2012 “GOD MADE MAN FREE” THE BIBLE
II CORINTHIANS
3:17 … where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
MICAH
4:1 … in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. 2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths:
3 ¶ And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
I KINGS
3:5 … the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee. 6 And Solomon said, … 7 … O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? 11 And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;
12 Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; 13 And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.
JOHN
8:1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. 2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. 12 ¶… saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. 31 … If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
MATTHEW
19:1 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan; 2 And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there. 22:15 ¶ Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.
16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. 17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? 19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. 20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?
21 They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s. 44 … I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
ACTS
5: 12 ¶ … by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; 15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.
16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.
2
17 ¶ Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation, 18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison. 19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,
20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life. 21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. 34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, … 35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men. 38 … let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: 39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; 40 And to him they agreed: 42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
ROMANS
8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
GALATIANS
5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free,… 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
SCIENCE & HEALTH WITH KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES BY MARY BAKER EDDY:
S&H 106:6-7
Like our nation, Christian Science has its Declaration of Independence.
S&H 225:14-16
The history of our country, like all history, illustrates the might of Mind, and shows human power to be proportionate to its embodiment of right thinking.
S&H 471:18–19
God is infinite, therefore ever present, and there is no other power nor presence.
3
S&H 149:26-27 God (to 4th ,)
God, divine Mind, governs all, not partially but supremely,
S&H 481:2-5
Man is tributary to God, Spirit, and to nothing else. God’s being is infinity, freedom, harmony, and boundless bliss. “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
S&H 106:7
God has endowed man with inalienable rights, among which are self- government, reason, and conscience. Man is properly self␣governed only when he is guided rightly and governed by his Maker, divine Truth and Love.
S&H 224:31 (only),
No power can withstand divine Love.
S&H 225:3
Truth makes man free.
S&H 420:3-4
Truth not error, Love not hate, Spirit not matter, governs man.
S&H 125:16-17
Reflecting God’s government, man is self-governed.
S&H 151:21-23
The human mind has no power to kill or to cure, and it has no control over God’s man.
S&H 128:4-6
The term Science, properly understood, refers only to the laws of God and to His government of the universe, inclusive of man.
S&H 270:10
Few deny the hypothesis that intelligence, apart from man and matter, governs the universe; and it is generally admitted that this intelligence is the eternal Mind or divine Principle, Love.
S&H 264:32-1
The universe of Spirit is peopled with spiritual beings, and its government is divine Science.
S&H 171:12-13
Mind’s control over the universe, including man, is no longer an open question, but is demonstrable Science.
4
S&H 127:26
Science is an emanation of divine Mind, and is alone able to interpret God aright. It has a spiritual, and not a material origin. It is a divine utterance, — the Comforter which leadeth into all truth.
S&H 19:29-3
Jesus urged the commandment, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me,” which may be rendered: Thou shalt have no belief of Life as mortal; thou shalt not know evil, for there is one Life, — even God, good. He rendered “unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.”
S&H 180:25-27
When man is governed by God, the ever-present Mind who understands all things, man knows that with God all things are possible.
S&H 451:14
Man walks in the direction towards which he looks, and where his treasure is, there will his heart be also. If our hopes and affections are spiritual, they come from above, not from beneath, and they bear as of old the fruits of the Spirit.
S&H 393:16-18
Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God’s government.
S&H 544:16-17
All is under the control of the one Mind, even God.
S&H 228:11-15
The enslavement of man is not legitimate. It will cease when man enters into his heritage of freedom, his God-given dominion over the material senses. Mortals will some day assert their freedom in the name of Almighty God.
S&H 225:21
Love is the liberator.
S&H 227:24-26
Citizens of the world, accept the “glorious liberty of the children of God,” and be free! This is your divine right.
S&H vii:20
Though empires fall, “the Lord shall reign forever.”
S&H 228:25-27
There is no power apart from God. Omnipotence has all-power, and to acknowledge any other power is to dishonor God.
S&H 227:16 (only)
God made man free.

PUBLICATIONS QUOTATION
“Liberty” By Ella W. Hoag The Christian Science Sentinel October 21, 1922
“… the freedom which God gives man is never anything more or less than the liberty to be absolutely governed by His perfect will. To live in obedience to divine Principle is the only liberty there is. Christian Science, in line with the Bible, accentuates this in all its teaching, showing conclusively that only as men learn to bring their wills into subjection to the divine will can they ever win the freedom which is man’s true heritage. Christian Science shows men how to demonstrate this freedom, for it presents both the law and the gospel, whereby freedom alone can be won. Obedience to God’s law is the only thing that can bring the complete understanding of what liberty is, and of what blessings it bestows upon man.
