GENESIS

1:27 … God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.

PSALMS

8:1 O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.
3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

SH 516:19-21
Man, made in His likeness, possesses and reflects God’s dominion over all the earth.

SH 143:26-31
Mind is the grand creator, and there can be no power except that which is derived from Mind. If Mind was first chronologically, is first potentially, and must be first eternally, then give to Mind the glory, honor, dominion, and power everlastingly due its holy name.

SH 515:21
“Let them have dominion.” Man is the family name for all ideas, — the sons and daughters of God. All that God imparts moves in accord with Him, reflecting goodness and power.

SH 200:16
The great truth in the Science of being, that the real man was, is, and ever shall be perfect, is incontrovertible; for if man is the image, reflection, of God, he is neither inverted nor subverted, but upright and Godlike.

SH 515:1-2
His birthright is dominion, not subjection.

II SAMUEL

22:1 And David spake unto the Lord the words of this song in the day that the Lord had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:
2 And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour;
29 For thou art my lamp, O Lord; and the Lord will lighten my darkness.
31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.
32 For who is God, save the Lord? and who is a rock, save our God?
33 God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.

JOB

22:21 Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
22 Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
26 For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
27 Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee…
28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

SH 307:25 The
The divine Mind is the Soul of man, and gives man dominion over all things. Man was not created from a material basis, nor bidden to obey material laws which Spirit never made; his province is in spiritual statutes, in the higher law of Mind.

SH 380:19-21
Nothing but the power of Truth can prevent the fear of error, and prove man’s dominion over error.

SH 14:25-28
Entirely separate from the belief and dream of material living, is the Life divine, revealing spiritual understanding and the consciousness of man’s dominion over the whole earth.

MATTHEW

4:23 ¶ And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
5:1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
14 Ye are the light of the world.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
44 …I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

SH 102:13 man
…man, reflecting God’s power, has dominion over all the earth and its hosts.

SH 324:5-12
“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”
Unless the harmony and immortality of man are becoming more apparent, we are not gaining the true idea of God; and the body will reflect what governs it, whether it be Truth or error, understanding or belief, Spirit or matter. Therefore “acquaint now thyself with Him, and be at peace.”

SH 485:14-19, 24
Emerge gently from matter into Spirit. Think not to thwart the spiritual ultimate of all things, but come naturally into Spirit through better health and morals and as the result of spiritual growth. Not death, but the understanding of Life, makes man immortal.
If thought yields its dominion to other powers, it cannot outline on the body its own beautiful images, but it effaces them and delineates foreign agents, called disease and sin.

MATTHEW

20:17 And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, …
20 ¶ Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.
21 … She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.
22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.
23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.
24 And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren.
25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.
26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;
27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

SH 238:22-23
Attempts to conciliate society and so gain dominion over mankind, arise from worldly weakness.

SH 531:29-32
The mythologic theory of material life at no point resembles the scientifically Christian record of man as created by Mind in the image and likeness of God and having dominion over all the earth.

SH 381:20-21, 24-26
Think less of the enactments of mortal mind, and you will sooner grasp man’s God-given dominion.
The harmony and immortality of man will never be reached without the understanding that Mind is not in matter.

SH 316:20
Christ presents the indestructible man, whom Spirit creates, constitutes, and governs. Christ illustrates that blending with God, his divine Principle, which gives man dominion over all the earth.

ROMANS

6: 14 … sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

I PETER

5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever.

JUDE

24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever.

SH 406:19-25
Resist evil–error of every sort–and it will flee from you. Error is opposed to Life. We can, and ultimately shall, so rise as to avail ourselves in every direction of the supremacy of Truth over error, Life over death, and good over evil, and this growth will go on until we arrive at the fulness of God’s idea, and no more fear that we shall be sick and die.

SH 228:11-13
The enslavement of man is not legitimate. It will cease when man enters into his heritage of freedom, his God-given dominion over the material senses.

SH 202:17
The days of our pilgrimage will multiply instead of diminish, when God’s kingdom comes on earth; for the true way leads to Life instead of to death, and earthly experience discloses the finity of error and the infinite capacities of Truth, in which God gives man dominion over all the earth.

‘Dominion—and our responsibility’
By Barbara M. Vining

Dominion has long been misunderstood by people to mean domination—the supposed right of human beings to dominate over the earth, and over one another. This unfortunate misconception has led humanity to bring horrendous abuse upon itself, the earth, and the earth’s creatures. But the dominion God, divine Love, gives to man, His spiritual image and likeness, is not at all like that. Man’s God-ordained purpose is to reflect God’s dominion, the reign of divine Life, Truth, and Love, over all the earth.

In the Bible, the Psalmist asks of God, “What is man, that thou art mindful of him?” and answers, “Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet” (Ps. 8:4, 6). This spiritual dominion that man has means that absolutely nothing—except God—has power over man. And God’s power is always universally beneficial. But, of course, you and I must put our spiritual dominion into action in our lives in order to experience the blessings of God’s benevolent rule. In other words, we have the responsibility humbly to acknowledge and to be faithful to the fact that God alone governs us.

… what a blessing it is for us to discipline our own thought to yield to God’s government in every aspect of our experience. What protection from harm it is for us individually—and for everything and everyone within the range of our life and thought—to let God rule out of our character and actions all that is ungodlike.

Christ Jesus certainly knew the power of God’s reign in man. It was through Jesus’ exercise of man’s dominion—Jesus’ recognition of and submission to God’s supreme authority over all—that he healed the sick and the sinning, and raised the dead. And that is how we can be the Christian healers Jesus expected his followers to be.
