The Bible and Science and Health With Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy
PSALMS
19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart:
1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
PROVERBS
3:1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments;
2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
5 ¶ Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
13 ¶ Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.
II CHRONICLES
20:6 … O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?
EXODUS
19:21 … the Lord said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, …
20:1 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them:
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain;
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother:
13 Thou shalt not kill.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 Thou shalt not steal.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17 Thou shalt not covet …
SH 112:16-20 (to ;)
From the infinite One in Christian Science comes one Principle and its infinite idea, and with this infinitude come spiritual rules, laws, and their demonstration, which, like the great Giver, are “the same yesterday, and to-day, and forever;”
SH 307:26
Man was not created from a material basis, nor bidden to obey material laws which Spirit never made; his province is in spiritual statutes, in the higher law of Mind.
SH 458:23-24
The Christianly scientific man reflects the divine law, thus becoming a law unto himself.
SH 420:3-4
Truth not error, Love not hate, Spirit not matter, governs man.
SH 171:12-13
Mind’s control over the universe, including man, is no longer an open question, but is demonstrable Science.
SH 544:16-17
All is under the control of the one Mind, even God.
JOSHUA
1:1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,
7 … be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
9 … Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
DEUTERONOMY
4:1 … hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers giveth you.
6 Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
7 For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the Lord our God is in all things that we call upon him for?
8 And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?
9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life:
NEHEMIAH
1 And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded to Israel.
3 And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.
12 And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.
SH 14:9
To be “with the Lord” is to be in obedience to the law of God, to be absolutely governed by divine Love, — by Spirit, not by matter.
SH 233:1
Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power. These proofs consist solely in the destruction of sin, sickness, and death by the power of Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them. This is an element of progress, and progress is the law of God, whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfil.
SH 128:4-6
The term Science, properly understood, refers only to the laws of God and to His government of the universe, inclusive of man.
SH 393:16-18
Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God’s government.
SH 442:1 (only)
Our statute is spiritual, our Government is divine.
MATTHEW
22:35 … a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
7:12 … all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
13 ¶ Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few
there be that find it.
JOHN
14:15 ¶ If ye love me, keep my commandments.
SH 4:5
To keep the commandments of our Master and follow his example, is our proper debt to him and the only worthy evidence of our gratitude for all that he has done.
Outward worship is not of itself sufficient to express loyal and heartfelt gratitude, since he has said: “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
SH 463:24-28
Our Master treated error through Mind. He never enjoined obedience to the laws of nature, if by these are meant laws of matter, nor did he use drugs. There is a law of God applicable to healing, and it is a spiritual law instead of material.
SH 168:15
Because man-made systems insist that man becomes sick and useless, suffers and dies, all in consonance with laws of God, are we to believe it? Are we to believe an authority which denies God’s spiritual command relating to perfection, — an authority which Jesus proved to be false? He did the will of the Father. He healed sickness in defiance of what is called material law, but in accordance with God’s law, the law of Mind.
II CORINTHIANS
4:8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; … perplexed, but not in despair;
9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
18 … we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
6 … God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
ROMANS
8:7 …the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.
JAMES
4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save …
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
ECCLESIASTES
12:13 ¶ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
SH 182:19-22
Obedience to material law prevents full obedience to spiritual law, — the law which overcomes material conditions and puts matter under the feet of Mind.
SH 340:15-22, 4
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” (Exodus xx. 3.) The First Commandment is my favorite text. It demonstrates Christian Science. It inculcates the triunity of God, Spirit, Mind; it signifies that man shall have no other spirit or mind but God, eternal good, and that all men shall have one Mind. The divine Principle of the First Commandment bases the Science of being, by which man demonstrates health, holiness, and life eternal.
This text in the book of Ecclesiastes conveys the Christian Science thought, especially when the word duty, which is not in the original, is omitted: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” In other words: Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: love God and keep His commandments: for this is the whole of man in His image and likeness. Divine Love is infinite. Therefore all that really exists is in and of God, and manifests His love.
SH 253:28
The belief in sin and death is destroyed by the law of God, which is the law of Life instead of death, of harmony instead of discord, of Spirit instead of the flesh.
SH 180:25-27
When man is governed by God, the ever-present Mind who understands all things, man knows that with God all things are possible.
SH 17:12-15
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
For God is infinite, all-power, all Life, Truth, Love, over all, and All.

“The Harmony and Immortality of Man are Intact”
By Harold Molter
Christian Science Sentinel
August 8, 1959
Mary Baker Eddy writes in her book “No and Yes” (10:27-3), “Eternal harmony, perpetuity, and perfection, constitute the phenomena of being, governed by the immutable and eternal laws of God; whereas matter and human will, intellect, desire, and fear, are not the creators, controllers, nor destroyers of life or its harmonies.”
How is the Christian Scientist enabled to experience here and now this enduring sense of peace? Through alertness, through standing watchfully at the door of thought, one learns to distinguish between those thoughts which are discordant and those which inspire courage and moral and spiritual strength.
The man of peace and spiritual integrity finds the impulsion of his every thought and act in his unity with God. He attracts to himself those who express, or are seeking to express, like qualities. In the unity of thought among individuals, we find the beginnings of world peace and prosperity.
The Psalmist said (Ps. 119: 165), “Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.” Fear, hatred, selfishness, cannot touch the individual who yields to the law of Love and reflects the true sense of goodness in daily living.
When we practice the laws of Truth, Life, and Love, by expressing daily the qualities of God, we establish a formidable defense against all human discord.
In the book of Isaiah we read (26:3), “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” As the disciple cultivates the practice of keeping his mind stayed on God and His perfect creation of spiritual ideas, he learns to put his whole trust in divine Love. This enduring state of unity with and dependence on God alone brings into his experience a calm state of consciousness and a spiritual poise which bless all who come within the atmosphere of his thought.
One whose consciousness is spiritualized and firmly embedded in divine Love, emphasizing harmony in thought and deed, helps to fulfill the promise made at the birth of Jesus, “On earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2:14).
